Minecraft Relic Disc: A 2026 Guide to Brushing Up on Rare Music
Find the Minecraft Relic disc in Trail Ruins by brushing Suspicious Gravel—rare archaeology loot with no shortcut.
Some Minecraft players chase diamonds. Some chase the perfect village. Then there are the glorious oddballs who hear a few notes of the Relic disc and decide that this one tiny item is now their entire personality. Since the Trails and Tales update added five new music discs, the Relic disc has stayed the ultra-rare prize among them. In 2026, the method is still the same, and it is still not a quest for the impatient. The disc does not spawn in a chest, does not drop from a mob, and certainly does not appear because a player stared at a jukebox with enough emotional intensity. It comes from archaeology, which is a polite way of saying that players must brush suspicious gravel in Trail Ruins until the gravel decides to stop being mysterious.

Where the Relic disc hides 🧱
The only source is the new archaeology mechanic: brushing Suspicious Gravel at Trail Ruins can drop the Relic disc as a possible reward. Trail Ruins are underground structures, and only the top of their tower tends to peek out of the ground. Players who spot terracotta and stone brick poking through the surface have probably found one. The rest of the ruin is buried, so the real work happens after the shovel comes out.
Trail Ruins can spawn in the Jungle, Old Growth Birch Forest, Old Growth Pine Taiga, Old Growth Spruce Taiga, Snowy Taiga, and Taiga. Most points of interest seem to appear near water, such as a river, lake, or ocean. For the best odds, players should follow the coast in one of those biomes and keep an eye on the terrain. The ruins are not a vending machine; they are more like a grumpy librarian who hides the good book on the bottom shelf.

How to obtain the Relic disc 🪶
After finding a Trail Ruins location, the next step is excavating Suspicious Gravel along the trail with the Archaeology Brush. The brush is not difficult to make, but it does require a little prep.
-
Craft the Brush using a Copper Ingot, a Feather, and a Stick.
-
Place the Brush in the Hotbar and scroll until it appears in hand.
-
Use the Brush as one would use a hoe or make a path with a shovel.
-
Hold down the button for about five seconds to brush a block completely.
-
When brushing finishes, an item rolls from one of two loot tables and pops out, converting the suspicious block into a standard block of the same type.
The suspicious gravel, ever the drama queen, refuses to reveal its secret until the full brushing animation is done. Players should not tap once and walk away expecting treasure. This is a commitment.
How rare is the Relic disc? 🎵
There are two types of Suspicious Gravel in Minecraft: standard and rare. There is currently no known way to tell them apart by sight. Each Trail Ruin contains a mix of both types, but the Relic disc can only drop from rare Suspicious Gravel blocks. The chance is about 10 percent per rare block, and each ruin has several of the desired block type. A fully excavated Trail Ruin can reasonably be expected to produce at least one Relic disc. If it does not, that is very unfortunate luck. No dice. The best course is to find another Trail Ruin and try again.

Playing the Relic disc 🎧
The reward is not just a collector’s item. The Relic disc can be played on a jukebox, where the machine waits with theatrical patience for someone to insert it. In addition to in-game playback, players can get a sneak peek of the track on Spotify. Each of the new tracks from the Trails and Tales update was posted there as part of the publicity for the update. Spoiler alert: the Relic disc sounds appropriately eerie and old-world, which makes sense for a tune dug out of a ruin.
For completionists, the Relic disc is a fine excuse to ruin a perfectly good afternoon of mining. For music lovers, it is a tiny vinyl record with a very stubborn delivery system. For everyone else, it is a reminder that Minecraft can turn gravel into a treasure hunt. Good luck, have fun, and trust the process. The jukebox is waiting. ⛏️
